Home Generators
Home generators provide emergency power for days, or even weeks. When the power goes out or when there is an emergency, you will still use essential appliances such as air conditioning, heating, refrigerators and lights.
You get clean, quiet backup power from when you need it most.

This is just what you and your family need to maintain a comfortable supply of electricity to your house. We recommend permanent units. There are two types:
- Stationary (also referred to as “standby” or permanent) Stationary units remain in place and our expert installation service hooks them up permanently.
- Portable (which must be stored, rolled out and hooked up as needed)
You can choose your fuel. Your options are gasoline, diesel, natural gas or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).
Natural gas home generators are considered more fuel efficient than other options. Your home must have a gas pipelines in place. If you do, you have a steady supply of the fuel. You can continue providing crucial power to refrigerator-freezers, lights, air conditioning and furnaces.
LPG is most likely what you use in a gas barbecue. You would need to have a sufficiently-sized tank in which to store fuel. It can be a good choice for a portable unit because the fuel source can move with the generator itself.
If you require more, it can be delivered upon order by a supplier.
Gasoline and diesel home generators also get the job done well. You will keep a supply of the fuel on hand, but also have the benefit of going to nearby service stations to get more.
- The newest stationary models feature very smart engineering. They are available with “brains”: automatic start and automatic transfer switches. That means the generator will automatically sense when there is an outage and kick on, and also automatically switch back when the power comes back on; connecting back to utility lines. And then it turns itself off. You don’t have to touch it.
Permanent home generators can be the best option to power a whole house during a long-term disruption. We install it professionally and connect it to the fuel source. Most often it is set on a concrete slab base, far enough from windows and doors to mitigate noise but near the closest natural gas line if that is the fuel.
Other external fuel sources provide some flexibility of placement.
Another superb benefit of stationary home generators is that you don’t have to be at home when the power goes out, if you have the auto-start function. You can expect emergency power to start within 30 seconds. Stationary systems offer nearly unlimited hours of power, and are there if an ice storm causes a long-term outage, or when a thunderstorm knocks out power overnight.
Small home generators can power several plug-in appliances. Consumer Reports studied the options, and determined that a stationary model can deliver a good deal of comfort in a power outage.
- The average stationary unit, 10,000 to 15,000 watts, powers a refrigerator, several lights, a sump pump, TV or microwave, water heater OR central air conditioning OR an electric range plus a washer and dryer, and will power them for a much longer period of time.
We exclusively represent and install exceptional KOHLER products, which feature automatic, hands-off start and stop and provide power within 10 seconds of an outage.
